What a pleasure to present you my first shirt !!!! Just a few months you could discover my versions of the Camas blouse Thread & Theory in Lanvin Chiffon and tartan cotton... But I dreamed of making a real shirt collar and lapel … I do not know why it seemed a “mountain” !!! What was the trigger that ? This beautiful cotton with gold fine lines by Pretty Mercerie : a real favorite fabric ;))) It was obvious so I took my time but I was motivated enough to perform. Which pattern for the first shirt? I hesitated and I stood by the Wenona shirt by Named for all the details: the panels, the structure of the sleeves and of course the cut (it has an option not retained pleats here). Anyway I wanted a garment elaborated to mark the occasion !!!
Level: Experienced – Timing : 4 hours – Cost : €€€
This is certainly one of the pieces on which I spent the most time: extreme care and a true quest accessories. Indeed, the color GOLD yes but beware there OR and OR, you can quickly fall into the “cheap”. The benchmark was scratching cotton. So I managed to find the right piping and buttons OR after internet search weeks in stores and finally I have unearthed in two neighborhood haberdashery …
Another key point: successful fittings with inserts? Before cutting, it is essential to think through these fittings anticipating the insertion of piping without forgetting the bend back. Once this stage, connections are everything one obsession throughout the assembly;))) So yeah scratch but thoroughness and accuracy are essential !!!
For inserts, I opted for the famous piping OR in the front / back as hard to involve other tissue due to the delicacy and transparency of cotton (only regret).
This famous shirt collar is perfectly fine cut (easier to ride than the coat Bianca), fusing important in order to provide it with sufficient consistency (same for the handles).
Finally buttonholes … After adjusting the bands best for optimum continuity of stripes, my friend “Juki” I definitely uninhibited … From afraid to fail on this final step, I realized not far from 20 trials and yet my Juki is a real safety in all situations !!!
One last point: the sleeves are made in 3 parts with the band starting at the collar, it is an interesting assembly to highlight if you opt for the two materials;)))
In conclusion, I will not hide my pride for this first real shirt up to my expectations. Here I wore it with a taupe faux leather leggings, but I gladly bear with a pencil skirt or trouser clips …
